Flood in seven local government areas of Adamawa State killed two persons, and rendered about 200 others homeless. Speaking to newsmen yesterday, Executive Secretary of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Mr Shadrach Daniel, said the affected local government areas include Numan, Demsa, Madagali, Mayo-Belwa, Yola North, Yola South and Guyuk.
“Farm lands, houses and livestock were affected by the flood which was caused by heavy rainfall in the state. We are now going round the affected local government areas for proper assessment of the situation. The flood killed two people in Gbalang village in Numan Local Government Area,” Daniel said.
He said SEMA has already reported the development to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for assistance.
Sarkin Kasuwan Kan Kwana in Numan, Alh.Garba Suleiman, told Daily Trust that the areas most affected by the flood include Green village, Kasuwar Kan Kwana, Sabon Pegi, Bayan Rest-House and Anguwar Fare. He called on the government to come to their aid.
“The state government should not allow this situation to continue. Year in year out, we face this same problem in Numan. The government should construct drainages in places like Green Village down to Sabon -Pegi Road. I think they should also do something quick in areas like Market Junction,” said Malam Musa Na Iraki, a resident of the area.
