Lands Commission halts eviction of squatters from disputed land

The National Land Commission (NLC) has stopped further evictions of squatters from land that is at the centre of a dispute between locals and a private developer in Mombasa. The 527 families have been embroiled in a dispute with the developer over ownership of the 135 acres since 2010.

Housing density and housing preference in Bangkok’s low-income settlements

This paper investigates whether this high density is observed in practice, and whether it is perpetuated in other forms of low-income housing, both community-developed (in settlements upgraded through participatory processes) and public housing. This is done through spatial analysis of housing and settlement form and function, household surveys of socio-economic characteristics and satisfaction with living conditions, and in-depth interviews with residents.

Indigenous Communities in Paraguay and Ecuador Sign Declaration to Promote Enforcement of Decisions related to the Right to Land

Representatives of the Sarayaku people (Ecuador), Dejusticia (Colombia), and Fundación Pachamama(Ecuador), with the support of ESCR-Net, came together at meetings organized by the Enxet-Sanapaná people together with Tierraviva (Paraguay) on September 26-27. The discussions focused on enforcing decisions by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR).
