In September, the 18th session of the UN Human Rights Council will take place in Geneva. At the event, the communications sent by Rapporteurs to country governments from December 2010 to May 2011 will be presented, as will the answers of the respective governments from February to July this year.
The communications may be letters of allegation transmitted to governments of countries about which the Rapporteur received complaints, or urgent appeals, when the cases require rapid action. In letters of allegation, the Rapporteur requests clarification and additional information regarding the accusation received.
From now on, the communications will be presented as a joint report by all Rapporteurs, and no longer individually, as before. The report will be made public on the site of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in the last week of August.
